Dr. Eliezer Masliah, MD

A leading authority on neurodegenerative diseases, Dr. Masliah received his MD from the National Autonomous University of Mexico in 1983. After obtaining his MD, he went on to obtain his specialty in Pathology at the National Institutes of Health in Mexico City in 1986. From 1987-1989 he performed postdoctoral studies in Neuropathology and Neurodegeneration at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), where he became Assistant Professor of Neurosciences and Pathology in 1986 and full Professor in 1997. He is the Director of the Laboratory of Experimental Neuropathology at the Neurosciences Department at UCSD since 1994. Dr. Masliah has published over 550 scientific papers and more than 20 book chapters and has published extensively in journals such as Science, Nature, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, and The Journal of Biological Chemistry. His research is focused on understanding and treating synaptic damage caused by diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and HIV dementia.

Dr. Jayaraman Rao, MD

Dr. Jayaraman Rao is a Professor of Neurology and Neurosciences and Director of Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorder Center at Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. He is internationally known in the field of Parkinson's Disease and movement disorders for his research and publication on Deep Brain Stimulation therapy. Dr. Rao earned his medical degree from Kasturba Medical College/Manipal & Mangalore University of Mysore in India. He completed his internship at Pontiac General Hospital/University of Michiagan and Government General Hospital/University of Madras, and his residency at St. Vincent's Hospital & Medical Center. He then went on to complete his fellowship training at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons in New York, New York in Neurobiology.
